Mending techniques are used to repair and strengthen garments and other textile items. But, when left visible the repairs are also decorative, and add texture, line, shape, and color. In this workshop you will look at Japanese and French mended textiles from Jody’s collection and then try your hand at the mending techniques. At the end of the workshop we will create a sampler book out of the mended fabric that you can refer to for future projects.

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING:

At least five pieces of medium weight cotton or linen fabric measuring 5 x 7 inches.

Reused fabrics are encouraged - old denim works great for this!

Scraps of fabric for mending - mix of colors, patterns, weights.
