Artists’ Statement:
My work is figurative sculpture in a variety of unusual materials, such as household cleaning aids, fibers, and local wild clays. Looking more deeply, I have been influenced by artwork of the past: from the magnificent  abstractions of humankind’s first artistic expressions, to the classically elegant sculptural forms of the Greeks, to my own father’s figurative sculpture, and the annually-occurring ritual effigy of “The Man” of the Burning Man Project in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. I am fascinated by the way that mankind has used art as an interface with the mysterious and chaotic forces of nature and existence. The most powerful examples appear to have a sentience or personality of their own. In my own process, it is the seeking of this personality within the materials that I have chosen that keeps me both challenged and engaged. My forms often emerge and dissolve into the medium, dancing on the edge of chaos and control. Reaching into the mysteries and possibilities of chaos, I seek to find expression of forms not seen before.
